START THERAPY

FAQs.

Starting therapy can feel uncertain and we get that.

Here are some of the most common questions
people ask before they begin.
If there’s anything
else you’d like to know, we’re always here to help.

How do I know what type of therapy I need?

You don’t need to decide that on your own, that’s our job to help you with. When you sign up, we’ll ask a few simple questions about what’s bringing you to therapy. Based on your needs, goals, and preferences, we’ll match you with a counsellor who uses an approach that fits you best.

Who will I be speaking to?

You will be matched with a trainee counsellor who is in the final stages of their professional training and gaining clinical experience under close supervision from a qualified, accredited therapist. All of our counsellors and supervisors follow BACP/UKCP ethical guidelines to ensure safe and effective practice.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on you and what you’d like to work on. Some people find 6–8 sessions helpful for a specific issue, while others prefer ongoing support over a few months. You and your counsellor can decide together what feels right, there is no fixed minimum or maximum.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Once you have been matched with a counsellor, you’ll receive a simple online payment link before each session. Payments are made securely by debit or credit card, and session fees are £40.

Do you offer online sessions only?

Yes, Mindful People is a fully online counselling service, so you can attend sessions from anywhere in the UK. All sessions are held securely through a private video platform. You will just need a quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.

Is everything I share confidential?

Absolutely. Your privacy and trust are at the heart of what we do. All sessions are confidential, and your counsellor will only discuss your case in supervision for professional guidance, never in a way that identifies you personally. We also comply fully with UK GDPR and data-protection laws.

What if I don’t feel comfortable with my counsellor?

That’s okay, it happens sometimes. If you don’t feel the right connection, just let us know and we will offer to match you with another counsellor. We want you to feel comfortable and supported throughout your journey.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged, as that time is reserved especially for you.

What if I’m in crisis or need urgent help?

If you need immediate help, please contact:

Samaritans:  Call 116 123 (free, 24/7)

Text “SHOUT” to 85258 for free crisis text support

Or contact your GP or local NHS crisis team

Can I return to therapy later if I take a break?

Of course. You can come back to Mindful People at any time. We will do our best to reconnect you with the same counsellor or match you with someone new, depending on your needs and their availability.
