If you are a trainee therapist seeking a meaningful placement experience and would like to be part of a mindful and caring team, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Considering joining Mindful People as a developing therapist can bring up many questions and we are here for all of them. Here are some of the things future therapists ask most often. If there’s anything else you are wondering, we are always here to support you.
Who can join as a therapist?
We welcome applications from trainee counsellors or psychotherapists who are currently enrolled in recognised training courses, as well as qualified therapists who are interested in offering low-cost sessions. All therapists must be members of a professional body such as the BACP or UKCP.
Do I need to have supervision in place?
Yes. At mindful People we provide monthly group supervision led by a qualified supervisor. This supervision is designed to support you in your client work and professional development. However, it may not replace the supervision required by your training institution. You will still need to maintain your own external supervision arrangements to ensure you meet the required hours set by your course or professional body.
How are clients allocated to me?
All therapy offered through Mindful People is delivered online. Clients contact us through our website, and we carefully match them with a suitable therapist based on their needs, your areas of interest or specialism, and your availability. You’ll be contacted when a suitable client is identified, and you can confirm whether you have capacity to take them on.
How many clients can I see each week?
At the start of your placement, you can work with up to four clients per week. This allows you to settle into the role and build confidence while ensuring a manageable workload. Once you’ve gained experience and your supervisor agrees that you are ready, you may gradually increase your caseload to a maximum of six clients per week.
Can I choose my working hours?
Yes. You can set your own availability and schedule for online sessions. We’ll only match clients within your preferred times.
Is everything I share confidential?
Absolutely. Your privacy and trust are at the heart of what we do. All sessions are confidential, and your counsellor will only discuss your case in supervision for professional guidance, never in a way that identifies you personally. We also comply fully with UK GDPR and data-protection laws.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
No. This is an online-only service, allowing you to work remotely and flexibly with clients across the UK.
Will I receive support as a trainee?
Yes. We understand that many of our therapists are in training. You’ll receive monthly supervision, guidance on ethical practice, and ongoing support from our team to help you feel confident and equipped in your client work.
Do I need my own insurance?
Yes. All therapists are required to have professional indemnity insurance and DBS checked.
What kind of clients will I see?
Our clients come from diverse backgrounds and may present with a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, relationships, and life transitions. You will only be offered clients appropriate to your level of training and competence.
